Its quiet, pleasant location
The food was pretty basic and decidedly unimaginative. Dinner was cafe style. Breakfast was much better.
Staff very helpful and food lovely,, more of a stopover on my way to edinburgh so ticked the boxes for convienince and price...
Used the Hotel as a stop during a journey from Scotland. The staff were friendly and the evening meal and breakfast were good. The hotel is situated just off the motorway in a small village setting. The hotel offers good value for the rates charged.
The Hotel is a little tired looking but the rooms and guest areas were very clean
An excellent family run hotel. Nice room, friendly helpful staff and an excellent reasonably priced meal in the bar/lounge. Breakfast good also. We used it as a stop-over on the way to Nothern Scotland and for this, with it's proximity to the motorway (only a few miles), it was an excellent choice.
My wife did not find the mattress comfortable, but she has a back problem. I found the mattress comfortable, so it's probably not a valid complaint - just personal preference and you can't please everyone all the time. It wasn't something we would complain about.
The exceptionally friendly service. Good food at a reasonable price.
TV reception in my room was really bad, but it was excellent in the communal area. Unfortunately I don't watch soaps, nor do I want it almost permanently on ITV!
I have stayed at The Abington on several occasions and it never fails to come up to meet all expectations. Friendly staff, good choice of menu, excellent breakfast, comfortable rooms.Location just off M74 ideal.
helpful staff, friendly, cosy, family rooms, good showers and bath if needed, good facilities in room.
lack of vegetarian options on menu
location convenient to main road (A74(M)). Good bar menu. Friendly staff
Reception was not pleasant. Being told 3x in as many minutes that the hotel was non smoking. (Is there anywhere where you are allowed to smoke??) Dinner was mediocre and took a long time to server. (with apologies from waitress) Breakfast was kept warm and therefore dry and hard. Staff was helpfull and polite, however the manager/owner was not. We have had a better room and fresh food for the same price elsewhere.
Pleasant staff: homely atmosphere, good food, quiet, lovely surroundings, just a shame i was on business, i will return on holiday one day
It was an excellent location for my journey to Scotland from South Yorkshire in a lovely little village. The room was spotlessly clean.
We arrived fairly late and there was a reluctance to provide food other than a sandwich which was quite meagre for the price charged for it.
The hotel was situated in the middle of the village which was great as my wife and I like the quiet. The meals were good and very nicely presented.
We booked a table for the restraunt on the Friday night but were brought our meals in the bar.
Hotel was clean and tidy at all times. Location is peaceful and ideal for walking and touring the area.
Some bad organisation with regard to evening food. Owner/manager appeared to be trying to do everything himself. Resulted in slow service and poorly prepared meals. Really needs a dedicated chef/cook to run the kitchen.
Staff were very attentive and helpful. Booking through Booked.net allowed me to save £20 per night
These are not complaints but observations. There seemed to be only 3 staff and had the hotel been half full I think they would have struggled. The breakfast was very good except the scrambled eggs were sitting in a layer of water.
Fine for short overnight stay and convenient.
Rather small "double" room, but did have everything one needs for short overnight stay. Bed was very hard! Functional, but not luxurious!
